Marvel Movies are incredible. Who doesn’t love watching Iron Man use all of his gadgets and ingenuity to triumph over the villains? And of course, who could forget the wise words of Ben Parker when he told his nephew that, “With great power, comes great responsibility.” Humanity is currently at a crossroads, a unique apex, where we control what happens next. We have each been gifted with both power and responsibility. Our powers are rooted in responsible actions and the choice to continue protecting those most vulnerable to COVID-19. This conscious decision involves sacrifice, patience, and the greatest care.
As states in the U.S. begin the re-opening process, many will begin to feel a greater sense of safety and security. As life “resumes” with its’ familiar patterns and rhythms, most will lose their focus on infection prevention and control. It is critical at this moment, that we continue to prioritize physical distancing and precautionary measures to stop further spread of COVID-19 and protect those at greatest risk. Although the curve has started to flatten, we are not out of the woods yet – and are still months away from a vaccine.
With many flocking to restaurants, bars, and public spaces as businesses and states reopen, there is a valid concern of a resurgence of COVID-19. We encourage everyone to continue to practice the recommendations of the CDC including physical distancing, frequent handwashing, use of masks and other relevant personal protective equipment and to use the best judgment when in public, to minimize the risk of exposure.
If this isn’t directly relevant to you as a reader, chances are it’s VERY relevant to someone you know and love. Whether immuno-compromised, living with a pre-existing condition, or over the age of 60, each of us knows and cares about someone who falls into one or more of these categories. Please think of neighbors, friends, family members, and co-workers. Think of the potential impact and risks to loved ones if they were exposed to COVID-19. Now think of those serving on the frontlines of this pandemic. The heroes serving day and night to care for our loved ones and those in our local communities. In order to protect others, they must remain safe and healthy.
In order to keep residents safe, our communities are asking their team members (AKA Healthcare Heroes) to take the Healthcare Heroes Pledge to maintain our infection prevention measures when in public. By agreeing to the pledge, our Healthcare Heroes state they will follow proper physical distancing, frequent handwashing, wear a mask, and not participate in any activities that increase their exposure risk to COVID-19.
VP of Nursing, Kathleen Price, had this to say about the pledge, “We have the distinct honor to care for our residents, their families, and each other during this unprecedented time. Now is the time to remember how important social distancing, frequent handwashing, and wearing masks is when out in public. Signing the pledge means that you will uphold your community infection control protocols at all times, even at home or when in public. Signing the pledge means not participating in risky activities. And signing the pledge means that you have made a consciences decision to do the very best for the folks that we serve. Please join me in pledging to protect and save lives. Thank you for the great work you are doing!”
